The Best Beaches in Bali

Whether you’re a beach bum, a surf enthusiast or a traveller looking for a touch of luxury, Bali has the perfect spot for you. The island’s kaleidoscopic palette of blues, greens and purples seduces travelers from all over the world — from honeymooning couples and digital nomads to families and adventurers looking for a little zen in their lives. With everything from soft sand to awe-inducing natural landscapes, here are some of the best beaches in Bali to get your dream holiday started.

One of the most popular beaches in Bali, this stunning strand on the eastern side of the island is a paradise for swimmers. You’ll find a lot of space to spread out with your loved ones on the powder-soft sand, and plenty of warungs (traditional food stalls) for some delicious Indonesian grub. The crystal clear waters are also perfect for snorkelling and seeing what colourful creatures call the coral reefs home.

A long, low strand at the base of rocky cliffs, Balangan Beach is one of the most spectacular and secluded beaches in all of Bali. Fringed by palm trees that scream ‘island living,’ this beautiful beach is ideal for sunbathing and romantic walks along the water’s edge. During sunset, you’ll find locals gathered for an outdoor performance of the traditional Kecak dance, and it’s worth arriving early to claim your spot.

You’ll have to trek a bit further south on the eastern part of the island to find this gorgeous beach, but it’s well worth it. This secluded cove is a dream come true for snorkelers and those who want to see some of the most beautiful sealife in all of Bali. The shallow waters and gentle current make it ideal for beginners and even children, so there’s no reason not to head here.

Another stunning white sand beach, this one in Canggu is lined with picturesque palm trees that scream ‘island life’. There’s a good chance you’ll be sharing your spot with a couple of surfers, but don’t let this put you off as there are still plenty of spaces to enjoy the waves and powdery sand all to yourself. Several warungs for some tasty treats and a refreshing drink are also close by, so you can keep the energy up while you soak up the Bali sunshine.

If you’re a fan of romcoms, you’ll recognise Padang Padang Beach from Eat, Pray, Love, where Julia Roberts finds the man of her dreams. This breathtaking beach on the Bukit Peninsula is a must-see for anyone looking to admire some impressive scenery and go for a dip in the ocean. If you’re up for a challenge, there’s a path down the side of the cliff to Kelingking Beach, which requires a good deal of exercise and nerve but rewards you with one of the most stunning beaches in all of Bali.

Sanur Beach curves in a southwesterly direction for more than 5km (3 miles) and has a broad expanse of calm, clean waters that are perfect for swimming. It’s a family-friendly option, with a paved beachfront promenade making it suitable for strollers and those who like to jog.  best beaches in Bali
